The Halifax Academy Vikings lost against the Ridgecroft Rams back in November, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. Halifax Academy had to suffer through a rough 59-30 loss at the hands of Ridgecroft. While losing is never fun, Halifax Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 286th, while Ridgecroft is ranked 22nd).
Halifax Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hayden Hilton, who scored eight points along with 12 rebounds and three steals. Hilton hasn't dropped below two steals for eight straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayden Barlow, who scored ten points.
Ridgecroft got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Makenzie Slaughter out in front who scored ten points along with nine assists and six rebounds. The game was Slaughter's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Molly Brown was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with 11 rebounds and three steals.
Halifax Academy now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Ridgecroft, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Halifax Academy will square off against Thales Academy Rolesville at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Ridgecroft, they will head out on the road to face off against Rocky Mount Academy at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday. Rocky Mount Academy is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
