Softball Game Preview: Belleview Rattlers vs. North Marion Colts

Belleview is 9-1 against North Marion since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Rattlers will host the Colts at 7:00 p.m. Belleview will be strutting in after a victory while North Marion will be coming in after a defeat.

Belleview's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. Everything went their way against Leesburg as they made off with a 6-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Rattlers in their matchups with the Yellow Jackets: they've now won eight in a row.

Leesburg's batters probably weren't too happy with Ya'Mari Reynolds, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 14 Ks (she gave up a single walk). Reynolds has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kiera Evans was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Mackenzie Quartararo, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.

Meanwhile, North Marion was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost 24-5 to P.K. Yonge.

Olivia Pierce made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Trinity Hampton was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

The win got Belleview back to even at 8-8. As for North Marion, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-14.

North Marion's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Belleview has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.1 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for North Marion, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.8 strikeouts. Will Belleview keep running through batters, or will the Colts buck the trend?

Belleview beat North Marion 8-4 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Do the Rattlers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Colts turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
