The Kennedy Cavaliers were the 47-43 winner over the Sherwood Warriors when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Kennedy fell 54-41 to Sherwood on Thursday. While losing is never fun, Kennedy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 202nd, while Sherwood is ranked 74th).
Sherwood's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Savannah Weisman led the charge by scoring eight points along with 12 rebounds and six steals. Weisman hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Avery Graham was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Kennedy's defeat was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Sherwood, the victory (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 13-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kennedy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Quince Orchard at 6:00 p.m. on February 20th. As for Sherwood, they will head out on the road to challenge Gaithersburg at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Gaithersburg is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
