Baseball Recap: Basic Wins High-Profile Match Against Liberty

Basic faced Liberty in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. Basic walked away with an 8-4 victory over Liberty. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 5-0 last Monday.

Basic got a great performance from Lincoln Evans as he tossed 5.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. What's more, Evans gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had over his last four matchups.

At the plate, Matthew Kelley was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Tate Southisene was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Basic is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.9 runs on average over those games. Liberty's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Basic will square off against Arbor View at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Liberty, they will challenge Sierra Vista at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
