The Burke Bulldogs will head out on the road to square off against the Military Magnet Academy Eagles at 7:00 a.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Burke sitting on five straight victories and the Eagles on three.
Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to post 16 more assists than your opponent, a fact Burke proved on Tuesday. They strolled past Cross with points to spare, taking the game 72-53. Burke pushed the score to 51-30 by the end of the third, a deficit the Trojans cut but never quite recovered from.
Burke found their leader in underclassman Andrea Kelly, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 11 rebounds. Kelly hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for six straight games. Another player making a difference was Dzyur Legare, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, Military Magnet Academy put the finishing touches on their 13th blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 89-3 win over Lowcountry Leadership on the road. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 62-3.
Dream Watson continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 28 points and 15 steals. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 11 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Dejamari Choppa Pugh, who scored 20 points along with seven steals.
Burke's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-7. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.0 points per game. As for Military Magnet Academy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season.
Burke was dealt a bruising 82-27 defeat at the hands of the Eagles in their previous meeting back in January. Can Burke avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
