The Marquette Catholic Explorers''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight loss. They were dealt a 52-14 loss at the hands of Roxana. Marquette Catholic was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 46-0.
Roxana's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Evan Wells led the charge by rushing for 94 yards and three touchdowns. Wells was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 50 yards. Another player making a difference was Andruw Ellis, who rushed for 94 yards and two touchdowns.
Roxana's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB five times. Leading the way was Keylon Caruthers and his two sacks.
Marquette Catholic's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 1-8. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 8.7 points per game. As for Roxana, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.
Marquette Catholic does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Roxana will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Paris at 3:00 p.m. Paris will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 322nd, while Roxana is ranked 51st).
