After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Northern, the Westlake Wolverines were happy to have found some success on Friday. They took down Calvert 51-37. Winning is a bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 25 to 6 on the offensive boards, as Westlake did.
Raynna Ratchford continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, almost dropping a double-double on ten points and nine steals. Caila Alexander was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with four steals.
Despite the loss, Calvert saw an underclassman step up: Brooke Kidwell scored 17 points along with seven rebounds. Kidwell continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.
Westlake's victory bumped their record up to 5-7. As for Calvert, they are on a 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-16.
Westlake will head out on the road to square off against the Raiders at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Leonardtown presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Wolverines in Maryland (the Raiders are ranked 82nd, while the Wolverines are ranked 200th). As for Calvert, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against the Cougars at 5:30 p.m. Thomas Stone is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
