On Saturday, the La Cueva Bears faced the West Mesa Mustangs in a battle between two of the state's top teams. La Cueva walked away with a 71-63 win over West Mesa. Winning may never get old, but La Cueva sure is getting used to it with their third in a row.
La Cueva found their leader in underclassman Eric Jacobsen, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Brandon Bartlett, who scored 12 points.
La Cueva has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. As for West Mesa, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-7.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. La Cueva will take on Piedra Vista at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. La Cueva has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 1,417 points over their last 20 matches. As for West Mesa, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Farmington at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Farmington focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Friday.
