The Picayune Maroon Tide will face off against the West Jones Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Picayune is looking to tack on another W to their 11-game streak on the road dating back to last season.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Picayune had no problem doing just that on Friday. They claimed a resounding 38-0 win over the Panthers on the road. Considering Picayune has won seven contests by more than 27 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Picayune's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Darrell Smith, who rushed for 110 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries. Picayune also got a significant boost from Chris Davis, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 89 yards.
Meanwhile, West Jones put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They strolled past Terry with points to spare, taking the game 21-7. Given West Jones' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi football rankings (they are ranked fifth, while Terry is ranked 45th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Their wins bumped Picayune to 10-2 and Pascagoula to 8-4.
Picayune was able to grind out a solid victory over West Jones when the teams last played back in November of 2022, winning 28-17. The rematch might be a little tougher for Picayune since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
