The Manteo Redskins will take on the Holmes Aces at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Manteo is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.
Manteo had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt Cape Hatteras on Wednesday. Manteo blew past Cape Hatteras 14-2. The result was nothing new for the Redskins, who have now won three matches by 12 runs or more so far this season.
Calleigh Bush made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-5. She also hit two doubles, marking her first of the season.
In other batting news, Bridgett Berry and Bella Huntingford did most of the damage at the plate: Berry scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-5, while Huntingford scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 3-for-4. That's the most stolen bases Berry has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kayla Austin, who went 3-for-5 with two RBI and one double.
Manteo was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .463. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cape Hatteras only posted a batting average of .192.
Meanwhile, Holmes fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Manteo on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Redskins by a score of 2-1. The game marked the Aces' lowest-scoring match so far this season.
Mia Hoffer spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks.
This is the second loss in a row for Holmes and nudges their season record down to 3-2. As for Manteo, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Manteo hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .405. However, it's not like Holmes struggles in that department as they've averaged .313. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Manteo came out on top in a nail-biter against Holmes in their previous matchup on Tuesday, sneaking past 2-1. Does Manteo have another victory up their sleeve, or will Holmes turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
