Softball Game Preview: Garland Owls vs. Wylie Pirates

Garland is 0-10 against Wylie since March of 2019 but things could change on Tuesday. The Owls will head out on the road to challenge the Pirates at 5:00 p.m. Garland is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season.

It was a Battle of the Birds when Garland faced off against Rowlett on Monday. The Owls walked away with a 6-2 victory over the Eagles. The win was nothing new for the Owls as they're now sitting on three straight.

Natalie Arent made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mady Key, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI. Another player making a difference was Melody Alarcon, who went 3-for-4 with one double.

Garland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .312 or higher in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Wylie entered their tilt with Rowlett on Saturday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Eagles 17-2. That's two games straight that the Pirates have won by exactly 15 runs.

Wylie pushed their record up to 16-7 with the victory, which was their ninth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for Garland, their record now sits at 13-5-1.

Garland might still be hurting after the 17-11 defeat they got from Wylie when the teams last played back in March. Can the Owls avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
