Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hoggard to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tristan Shivers, who shot 55% from the field to rack up 20 points and seven assists. Shivers' big performance that evening made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of AK Chance, who went 5-for-6 on her way to 14 points and six rebounds.
Hoggard smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in January.
Meanwhile, Wakefield faced Richmond in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. Wakefield secured a 46-40 W over Richmond. The win was familiar territory for the Wolverines, who have now won 17 matches in a row.
Wakefield's win came from a few key players Hoggard will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Lyla Bagwell, who posted eight points along with seven boards and four steals. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Maddison McIntyre, who had eight points and six assists.
Wakefield's victory was their 13th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 25-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.6 points over those games. As for Hoggard, their record is now 30-1.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Hoggard has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 30.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Wakefield struggles in that department as they've been averaging 22.2 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Hoggard beat Wakefield 56-45 when the teams last played back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hoggard since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
