The Perkiomen School Panthers will venture away from home to take on Abington Friends at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Abington Friends will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Perkiomen School extended their winning streak to three on Tuesday. The Panthers put the hurt on Girard College with a sharp 11-1 victory.
Gabby Samy made a splash while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over five innings pitched. Samy was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Cam McQuade was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Lily Kovaleski, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Abington Friends made easy work of George School on Friday and carried off a 17-2 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Abington Friends.
Like Perkiomen School, Abington Friends also got a great game from a two-way player: Maddie Montroy. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Montroy has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Gen Mueller was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Chase White also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Abington Friends kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Abington Friends' victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Perkiomen School, their record is now 3-1.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Perkiomen School hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .386. However, it's not like Abington Friends struggles in that department as they've averaged .504. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
