Lincoln County has gone 9-1 against Columbia Central recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Falcons will look to defend their home field against the Lions at 5:00 p.m. The last three games Lincoln County has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
While Lincoln County's win against Coffee County Central wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Falcons had just enough and edged out the Red Raiders 4-2. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Brenna Edwards made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. Edwards was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
Edwards wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Brinley Moran, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Columbia Central got themselves on the board against Shelbyville Central on Tuesday, but Shelbyville Central never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Golden Eagles with a sharp 11-0 victory. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by six runs or more this season.
Like Lincoln County, Columbia Central also got a great game from a two-way player: Bailey Lovell. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Lovell was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Molly Underwood, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Gabby Bolton, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.
Columbia Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Shelbyville Central only posted an OBP of .318.
Columbia Central's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Lincoln County, their win bumped their record up to 10-5-2.
Lincoln County was able to grind out a solid victory over Columbia Central when the teams last played two weeks ago, winning 4-0. Will the Falcons repeat their success, or do the Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
