They were just one part of a punishing run game: Union Grove was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 228 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Union Grove didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Konner Long, Andy Peck, and Hudson Wightman picked up one apiece. Peck also made five total tackles, which is notable because Union Grove is 6-1 when he posts at least three total tackles, but 1-2 otherwise. Long got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Honey Grove had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31.5 points) and they went ahead and made it seven on Friday. They put the hurt on the Brahmas with a sharp 28-8 victory. Considering the Warriors have won six contests by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Honey Grove's win came from a few key players Union Grove will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Ryelan Morris, who rushed for 159 yards and one touchdown on only 12 carries. His rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 107 rushing yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jarrmez Daniels, who rushed for 52 yards and one score on only five carries.
Union Grove's record is now 7-3. As for Honey Grove, their record now sits at 9-1.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Union Grove has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 160.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Honey Grove struggles in that department as they've been averaging 298.5 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
