Basketball Game Preview: Derby Panthers vs. Southeast Golden Buffalo

Derby has gone 3-0 against Southeast recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Derby Panthers will host the Southeast Golden Buffalo at 5:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Southeast is hoping to do what Valley Center couldn't on Tuesday: put an end to Derby's winning streak, which now stands at five games. Derby blew past Valley Center 67-36. The Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four games by 31 points or more this season.

Derby got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Macayla Askew out in front who posted ten points and seven rebounds. Askew has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Aysia Fox, who put up seven points.

Meanwhile, Southeast beat South 55-43 on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Golden Buffalo.

Southeast's win came from a few key players Derby will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Kiasia Allen, who went 8 of 15 on her way to 19 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Alana Webb, who had 11 points and five steals.

Derby's victory was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1. As for Southeast, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.

Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Derby hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 60.3 points per game. However, it's not like Southeast struggles in that department as they've been averaging 57.4 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.

Everything came up roses for Derby against Southeast in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, as the team secured a 71-23 victory. Does Derby have another victory up their sleeve, or will Southeast turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
