The Lakeland Lakers's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Goshen RedHawks at 7:30 p.m. on February 6th. One thing working in Lakeland's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last six contests.
In what's become a running theme this season, Lakeland gave their fans yet another huge victory on Thursday. They took their matchup on the road with ease, bagging a 70-40 victory over Churubusco. Given Lakeland's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 130th, while the Eagles are ranked 367th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Goshen can finally bid farewell to their eight-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. They snuck past Plymouth with a 62-56 victory. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Goshen got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Levi Sawatzky out in front who scored 26 points along with three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Sawatzky has scored at least a third of Goshen's points. Gage Worthman was another key contributor, scoring 22 points along with five rebounds and two blocks.
Lakeland is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. As for Goshen, their win bumped their record up to 5-10.
Lakeland beat the RedHawks 68-59 in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Goshen's Quinn Bechtel, who scored 28 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Now that he won't be playing on Tuesday, will it be that much easier for Lakeland to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
