The Gaston Christian Eagles are taking a road trip to challenge the Westminster Catawba Christian Indians at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Gaston Christian is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of North Carolina's top teams: Concord Academy, who was ranked fifth at the time (Gaston Christian was ranked 16th). Gaston Christian fell just short of Concord Academy by a score of 80-77 on Tuesday. One positive for Gaston Christian, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Cameron Newman, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten assists. That's the most assists he has posted since back in February of 2024. Alessandro Luparia was another key player, going 7 for 11 on his way to 21 points and three steals.
Newman wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Gaston Christian was working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Westminster Catawba Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 70-67 heartbreaker at the hands of SouthLake Christian Academy. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Indians have suffered since November 8, 2024.
Gaston Christian will have to contain Brycen Redmon as he made an impact in Westminster Catawba Christian's last game. He went 9 of 18 on his way to 27 points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Nikayle Hodge, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 11 points and six assists.
Gaston Christian's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 15-5. As for Westminster Catawba Christian, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-11.
Gaston Christian was able to grind out a solid victory over Westminster Catawba Christian in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, winning 75-64. The rematch might be a little tougher for Gaston Christian since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
