The Stanton Buffaloes will head out to challenge the Kermit Yellow Jackets at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Stanton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.3 runs per game this season.
Stanton proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by 14) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 victory over Angelo Prep. While the Buffaloes didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Stanton let Braydn Garcia and Mason Martinez run wild. Garcia went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one run, while Martinez went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those three hits gave Garcia a new career-high. Carson Henderson was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Kermit was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They came up short against Big Spring, falling 9-1.
Kermit saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aaron Rodriguez, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base. Armando Urias also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Stanton is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.4 runs over those games. As for Kermit, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.
Kermit's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Stanton has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Kermit, though, as they've been averaging only 2.7 strikeouts. Will Stanton keep running through batters, or will the Yellow Jackets buck the trend?
Stanton beat Kermit 9-5 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Buffaloes repeat their success, or do the Yellow Jackets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
