After soaring to 38 points the game before, the Webster County Highlanders were a bit more limited in their match on Friday. They took a serious blow against Wirt County, falling 37-6. Webster County lost against Wirt County in their previous head to head back in September of 2020, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 76-6 score last time.
Thomas Cochran threw for 55 yards while completing 75% of his passes. Rayden Triplett was his top target, picking up 36 receiving yards. On the ground, Bryson Lee rushed for 31 yards.
It was another big night for Chase Lowe, who rushed for 286 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 11.9 yards per carry. Lowe hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for four straight games.
Webster County's loss was their fourth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 3-7. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 9-1 St. Marys and 6-4 Gilmer County (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 62.5% over those games). As for Wirt County, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-4.
Webster County does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Wirt County will head out on the road to face off against Greenbrier West at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Greenbrier West is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
