Softball Recap: Sheldon Wins Going Away Against Willamette

Sheldon won the last time they faced Willamette and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Irish blew past the Wolverines 8-2.

Soraya Dorsey made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Savannah McKibben, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Natalia Shoemaker was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.

Sheldon is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Willamette, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-9.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Sheldon is set to square off against their familiar foe South Medford at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Willamette will face off against rival South Eugene at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
