The Mountain House Mustangs waltzed into Saturday's game with two straight wins but they left with three. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Athenian 59-56. Given Mountain House's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 28th, while Athenian is ranked 104th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Among those leading the charge was Ej Campbell, who scored 17 points along with 6 rebounds and 4 blocks. That makes it two consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Mountain House's points. Another player making a difference was Jordan Assefa, who scored 11 points.
Mountain House's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Athenian, their loss dropped their record down to 3-1.
Mountain House will head out on the road to face off against Kimball at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Kimball focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Saturday. As for Athenian, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Berean Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
