Two dominant guards in Darian Canty and Jonas Agyeman are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Westlake Wolverines will head out on the road to take on the Thomas Stone Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Friday, Westlake humbled the Cavaliers with a 72-42 victory. That looming 72-42 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Westlake yet this season.
Melvin Newman went supernova for Westlake, scoring 19 points along with five rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Newman has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Darius Kemper, who scored six points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Thomas Stone didn't have too much trouble with the Patriots on the road on Friday as they won 73-55. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Thomas Stone.
Thomas Stone got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Agyeman out in front who scored 25 points along with seven assists. Ty Woodland was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds.
Westlake's victory bumped their record up to 7-9. As for Thomas Stone, their victory bumped their record up to 10-6.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the pair are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Westlake hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 56.2 points per game. However, it's not like Thomas Stone struggles in that department as they've been averaging 61 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Westlake might still be hurting after the 53-32 loss they got from the Cougars when the teams last played back in January. Can Westlake avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
