Despite their defeat, Desert Pines saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Taveah Oliver, who posted 16 points and three steals, was perhaps the best of all. Oliver has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Anaiah Brown, who had six points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, Overland waltzed into their game on Thursday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They strolled past the Cougars with points to spare, taking the game 66-47. Given the Trailblazers' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 70th in Colorado, while the Cougars are ranked 399th in California), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Overland found their leader in sophomore Michaela Halton, who went 12 of 19 on her way to 27 points and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Halton has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ilaisaane Davis, who put up 16 points and eight rebounds.
Overland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in five consecutive contests.
Overland pushed their record up to 5-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.7 points per game. As for Desert Pines, their loss dropped their record down to 4-2.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Desert Pines has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 35.4 boards per game. However, it's not like Overland struggles in that department as they've been averaging 28.3 rebounds.
