With Redan High School's boys basketball team heading to the region 2-AAAAA tournament next week, the Stone Mountain town was flowing with optimistic talk about the team. Out of nowhere, head coach Dalton Greene resigned.
The resignation came without warning and left the entire town wondering the same puzzling question – why?
It has now been learned, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, that there was a police file with Greene's name in it. As of Sunday, the contents of the report were not yet made public knowledge provoking even further public curiosity. DeKalb County schools spokesperson Dale Davis announced the report's existence but refused to release the contents.
Greene's brother, Stanley Pritchett, Jr., the Washington High School football coach and former NFL running back for the Atlanta Falcons and Miami Dolphins, seemed just as confused by the news as everyone else did.
"I'm kind of stunned," Pritchett told the AJC. "I haven't really been able to talk to him."
The Raiders were having a great year under Greene as they sat at 15-7 going into next week's tournament. It was the best year for the Raiders since their 2004-2005 campaign (16-6). Greene had been with them since 2000.
All of the controversy comes in what was supposed to be a proud week for Redan. With the boys team heading to regionals, the girls just capped off an undefeated 19-0 regular season with a Friday win over Greenbrier.
