Football Recap: Eastern Skates Past Northwestern with Ease

Eastern lost to Northwestern back in August of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. The Comets really took it to the Tigers for the full four quarters, racking up a 44-14 win. The Comets pushed the score to 30-7 by the end of the third, a deficit the Tigers had little chance of recovering from.

Eastern's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Isaiah Pickett, who rushed for 160 yards and three scores while picking up 7.3 yards per carry. That's the most rushing touchdowns Pickett has posted since back in September of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Bentley Hullinger, who picked up 148 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

Eastern's run defense was locked in: Northwestern could only muster 2.6 yards per carry. The team can thank Abe Edwards for the heroic effort on defense: he. Eastern didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 7.6.

Eastern didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Kaleb Hurt and Cody Tarrh. Hurt got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Although Northwestern took the loss, they still got scores from Michael Arrick and Sam Jones.

Eastern has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 35.0 points this season. As for Northwestern, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Eastern will face off against Delphi Community at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. This will be the Comets' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Northwestern, they are packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will square off against Southwood at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
