Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only The Valley Vikings walked away with it. They took their game at home on Saturday with ease, bagging a 50-0 victory over Manzano. Valley might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won six contests by 20 points or more this season.
Tazhe Wilson was the offensive standout of the matchup as he rushed for 110 yards and three touchdowns on only eight carries. Wilson is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Charles Lopez-Burton, who rushed for 80 yards and a touchdown.
The victory was the fifth in a row for Valley, bringing their record for this year to 8-3. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-9 Del Norte and 2-9 Manzano (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 29.6% over those games). As for Manzano, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road , which bumped their record down to 2-9.
Valley will challenge Piedra Vista at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Piedra Vista's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last three matchups. Manzano does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
