The Oak Grove Grizzlies will be playing in front of their home fans against the Ashbrook Greenwave at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Oak Grove has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 346 points over their last eight matchups.
Oak Grove can now show off eight landslide victories after their most recent game on Friday. They took their matchup on the road with ease, bagging a 42-14 victory over Central Davidson. Given Oak Grove's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 30th, while Central Davidson is ranked 144th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Oak Grove's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jyden Barnes, who rushed for 105 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries. Another player making a difference was Connor Creech, who rushed for 36 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Ashbrook strolled past Huss with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 24-9. The victory was just what Ashbrook needed coming off of a 24-3 defeat in their prior match.
Ashbrook got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was JJ Gordon out in front who rushed for 97 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries. Gordon was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 68 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Martino Smith, who rushed for 138 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.3 yards per carry.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Huss to a paltry 239 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Ashbrook's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out five times before it was all said and done. The heavy lifting was done by Letrasky Pressley and Caleb Gordon who racked up five sacks between them.
Oak Grove's win was their tenth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 9-1. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 26.9 points. As for Ashbrook, their win bumped their record up to 4-6.
Friday's match might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Oak Grove has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 234.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Ashbrook struggles in that department as they've been averaging 151 per game. It's looking like Friday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
