The Conestoga Cougars typically have all the answers at home, but on Tuesday the Douglas County West Falcon proved too difficult a challenge. They managed a 46-40 win over the Cougars. That's another feather in the cap for Douglas County West, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Douglas County West's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Drake Travis led the charge by scoring ten points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryker Wohlers, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds.
Despite the loss, Conestoga saw an underclassman step up: Owen Trofholz scored 15 points along with six rebounds and two blocks. Another player making a difference was Zachariah Smith, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Douglas County West has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 18-2 record this season. As for Conestoga, their defeat ended a ten-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 15-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Douglas County West will take on Platteview at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Douglas County West focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Tuesday. As for Conestoga, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Cornerstone Christian School at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cornerstone Christian School will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Conestoga surely won't give up without a fight.
