If the Chambers Cougars were feeling good off their 64-16 takedown of the West Mecklenburg Hawks last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Chambers fell 62-51 to Hough on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Chambers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 322nd, while Hough is ranked 144th).
Several Cougars players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Taylor Simpson, who scored 20 points. That's the first time this season that Simpson scored 15 or more points. Jade? Kerr was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.
Hough's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chloe Galombeck, who scored 14 points along with five steals. Those five steals set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Kate Breault, who scored 15 points along with three steals.
Chambers' defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Hough, their win bumped their record up to 6-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Chambers will face off against Harding University at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Harding University is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home. As for Hough, they will head out on the road to face off against West Mecklenburg at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
