Calvary Chapel Academy and Morningside Academy are an even 3-3-1 against one another since February of 2022, but likely not for long. We've got a battle between Eagles coming up. Calvary Chapel Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.5 runs per game this season.
Calvary Chapel Academy easily dispatched Central Florida Christian Academy on Thursday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Eagles have suffered since February 27, 2024.
Lilian Stuart made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Natalie Keen, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-4.
Meanwhile, Morningside Academy came tearing into Tuesday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Bulldogs. Considering the Eagles have won nine matches by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Leigha Race made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gabbriella Oliver, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Reghan Wilbur was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
Morningside Academy hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four strikeouts batters every time they've taken the field this season.
Morningside Academy pushed their record up to 10-1 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Calvary Chapel Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 4-7.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Calvary Chapel Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .382. However, it's not like Morningside Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .515. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Calvary Chapel Academy suffered a grim 11-2 defeat to Morningside Academy in their previous meeting back in February. Will Calvary Chapel Academy have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
