Winside is 0-3 against St. Mary since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Winside Wildcats on the road again and play against the St. Mary's Cardinals on January 18th. Winside will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 275th, while St. Mary's is ranked 38th).
Winside suffered their biggest defeat since December 1, 2023 two weeks ago. They were outmatched by Hartington-Newcastle on the road and fell 52-19.
Hadleigh Schutt was Winside's leading scorer, having posted five points.
Meanwhile, St. Mary's put the finishing touches on their seventh blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They breezed by Santee at home to the tune of 80-33. St. Mary's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
St. Mary's got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Alissa Brabec out in front who scored 24 points along with three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Annabelle Barlow, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and six steals.
Winside bumped their record down to 1-10 with that loss, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 22.4 points per game. As for St. Mary's, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-2.
Winside was taken down by St. Mary's 53-22 in their previous meeting back in January of 2022. The match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Winside was down 40-10.
