Basketball Recap: Neumann Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Neumann had lost seven straight headed into Friday's game, but Mylee Van De Wouw didn't let it get to eight. Everything went the Neumann Celtics' way against the Barron Collier Cougars on Friday as the Neumann Celtics made off with a 57-34 win thanks in part to Van De Wouw, who went 11 of 17 on her way to 27 points and five steals. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Maddy Donahue, who posted 11 points and eight rebounds. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played.

Barron Collier's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Peyton Heffelfinger, who put up 13 points. Gabbi Georges was another key player, putting up nine points.

Neumann's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-7. As for Barron Collier, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-6.

Neumann and Indian Hill will round out the year against one another at at 11:00 a.m. on December 30th. As for Barron Collier, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Golden Gate at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
