Two dominant guards in Mila Rossini and Kyzarriah Fox are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Village Vikings will head out on the road to face off against the Antonian Prep Apaches at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
In what's become a running theme this season, Village gave their fans yet another huge victory on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 63-30 victory over Incarnate Word Academy at home. Given Village's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 293rd, while the Falcons are ranked 1091st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Village relied on the efforts of Rossini, who scored 21 points along with seven rebounds, and Shaniya Williams, who scored 25 points along with six rebounds and six steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Williams has scored at least a third of Village's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cyra Narahari, who scored five points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Antonian Prep had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 32.8 points), and they went ahead and made it nine on Wednesday. They enjoyed a cozy 57-41 win over Incarnate Word. Antonian Prep pushed the score to 48-25 by the end of the third, a deficit the Shamrocks cut but never quite recovered from.
The win makes it two in a row for Village and bumps their season record up to 22-10. As for Antonian Prep, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 28-7 record this season.
Things could have been worse for Village, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 61-42 loss to the Apaches when the teams last played back in January. Can Village avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
