Softball Recap: Beardstown Makes It Five in a Row on the Road

Beardstown had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt North Greene on Tuesday. The Tigers blew past the Spartans 11-1. Considering the Tigers have won seven matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Shelby Goodrich made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kylynn Maltby, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-4. She is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as she's now brought in four or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Bella Palmer, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Beardstown was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .394. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Greene only posted a batting average of .045.

Beardstown's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-7. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. As for North Greene, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-12.

Looking ahead, Beardstown will face off against Brown County at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for North Greene, they will square off against Staunton at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bulldogs will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Spartans surely won't give up without a fight.
