Plainview is 2-8 against Amarillo since March of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Plainview Bulldogs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Amarillo Sandies at 4:15 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Plainview picked up another tournament win on Friday. They walked away with a 7-3 victory over Ingram Moore.
Yaneli Jaramillo made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance gave her a new career-low in hits. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jakhai Gomez, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024. Kaylee Sifuentes also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, Amarillo waltzed into their match on Saturday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They were the clear victor by a 16-2 margin over the Jackrabbits. The result was nothing new for the Sandies, who have now won nine contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Like Plainview, Amarillo also got a great game from a two-way player: Amree Anglin. She struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). Anglin has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Bentli Rodriquez was a standout: she scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Braylee Shuffield, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Amarillo was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .586. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .393 or higher in four consecutive games.
Amarillo's win bumped their record up to 10-5-1. As for Plainview, their victory bumped their record up to 4-8.
Wednesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Plainview hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .344. However, it's not like Amarillo struggles in that department as they've averaged .502. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Plainview might still be hurting after the 17-1 loss they got from Amarillo when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Plainview avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
