Ursuline Academy is a perfect 3-0 against Liberty Christian since February of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Bears will be playing at home against the Warriors at 9:30 a.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Ursuline Academy came up short against Legacy Christian Academy on Friday, falling 18-11. The Bears have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.
Emily Cash stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she scored a run while going 2-for-4. Brenly Fink was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two runs.
Meanwhile, Liberty Christian won against Parish Episcopal on Tuesday with 11 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. The Warriors didn't even let the Panthers on the board, marking the Warriors' second-straight 11-0 shutout. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by six runs or more this season.
Makenzie Byler was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Byler was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs while going 4-for-4. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Pearl Battaglia was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Paige Childers, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one triple.
Liberty Christian is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Ursuline Academy, they now have a losing record of 6-7.
Saturday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Ursuline Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .475. However, it's not like Liberty Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .523. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Ursuline Academy's way against Liberty Christian when the teams last played back in May of 2021, as Ursuline Academy made off with a 21-0 victory. Will the Bears repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
