Serra Catholic has gone a perfect 6-0 against Jeannette recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Jayhawks at 4:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Serra Catholic headed into their last matchup having not scored more than two runs for four straight, but Leechburg let them put that streak behind them. The Eagles put the hurt on the Blue Devils with a sharp 15-3 win on Wednesday. The Eagles have beaten the Blue Devils the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Blue Devils has come to flipping the script.

Kelly Morrissey made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.
In other batting news, Keyara Watkins was incredible, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Alonna Morton, who scored four runs while going 2-for-4.
Serra Catholic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Jeannette never let their opponents score on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over Ellis. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Jayhawks.
Like Serra Catholic, Jeannette also got a great game from a two-way player: Grace Stein. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. Those hits were Stein's first of the season. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Abby Shaw, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Raylyn Gallik was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.
Jeannette pushed their record up to 4-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Serra Catholic, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Serra Catholic has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 11.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Jeannette struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Serra Catholic's way against Jeannette in their previous meeting back in April of 2022, as Serra Catholic made off with a 15-0 win. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Jayhawks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
