The Pineapple Cove Classical Academy Patriots will take on the Merritt Island Christian Cougars at TBD on Wednesday. Pineapple Cove Classical Academy will be strutting in after a victory while the Cougars will be coming in after a defeat.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Pineapple Cove Classical Academy walked away with it. They really took it to the Falcons for the full four quarters, racking up a 44-8 victory on the road. Pineapple Cove Classical Academy pushed the score to 33-5 by the end of the third, a deficit the Falcons had little chance of recovering from.
Pineapple Cove Classical Academy's win on Monday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Katherine Siao, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds. Siao continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Rachel Waine, who scored 13 points along with five steals.
Meanwhile, Merritt Island Christian struggled with offensive rebounds on Friday (the Greyhounds had seven more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Merritt Island Christian fell 59-46 to the Greyhounds. While losing is never fun, Merritt Island Christian can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 211th, while the Greyhounds are ranked 74th).
The losing side was boosted by Kaity Shea, who scored 18 points along with two steals. Shea is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Keri Shea, who scored nine points along with five assists.
Pineapple Cove Classical Academy's win bumped their record up to 6-17. As for Merritt Island Christian, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 14-8.
Pineapple Cove Classical Academy took a serious blow against the Cougars when the teams last played back in January of 2023, falling 64-19. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Pineapple Cove Classical Academy was down 41-6.
