It was a good run, but the Hillsborough Raiders unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Sunday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 52-51 to Caldwell. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Hillsborough came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked 16th, while Caldwell is ranked 88th).
When it comes to explaining why Hillsborough lost, one person who can't be blamed is Philip Unangst. Despite the final result, he scored 20 points along with nine rebounds and two blocks. Unangst has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last eight times he's played. Another player making a difference was Nicholas Losch, who scored seven points.
Hillsborough's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-2. As for Caldwell, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hillsborough will take on Sparta at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Caldwell, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Newark Tech at 4:00 p.m. on January 16th.
