Princeton is 8-2 against Kewanee since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Tigers will venture away from home to face off against the Boilermakers at 4:30 p.m. Princeton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Princeton didn't have quite enough to beat Newman Central Catholic and fell 3-2. The Tigers have struggled against the Comets recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.
Tyler Forristall spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on 12 hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Princeton saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jordan Reinhardt, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Kewanee). They were the clear victors by a 19-3 margin over Princeton on Monday. The Boilermakers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Colson Welgat made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Welgat was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most hits he has posted over his last 11 games.
In other batting news, Ace LaFollette was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Griffin Hicks, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
Kewanee always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .659. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Princeton's defeat dropped their record down to 7-6-2. As for Kewanee, their record now sits at 9-11.
Princeton suffered a grim 19-3 defeat to Kewanee in their previous matchup on Monday. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
