This season hasn't been kind to the Clay County Panthers, who are still winless after their sixth match. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 46-34 defeat to Braxton County. Clay County was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Braxton County apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Braxton County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but SkyLynn Abraham led the charge by scoring six points along with ten rebounds and four blocks. Abraham hasn't dropped below two blocks for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Bailey Pritt, who scored 13 points along with three steals.
Clay County's defeat was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-6. As for Braxton County, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.
Clay County will be playing in front of their home fans against Charleston Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Charleston Catholic focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 last Thursday. As for Braxton County, they will head out on the road to face off against Doddridge County at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Doddridge County and Braxton County are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
