Cascades recap Sept. 26, 2012
Vandercook Lake moved up to 374 from 481 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Cascades. The Jayhawks climbed the ranks as a result of a 32-30 win over Addison.
Michigan Center extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Napoleon, 53-14. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
East Jackson's dynamic duo of Zach Griffiths and James Snider proved tough for Grass Lake to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Griffiths threw for 61 yards and one touchdown and Snider had 40 yards receiving. Nathan Siegrist helped East Jackson's passing attack out by catching two balls for 24 yards.
Jared Bruner was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 34 carries, he ran for 286 yards as the Panthers fell to the Warriors. Trevor Maynard also contributed to the rushing game with 42 yards on the ground.
Wyatt Mathews made the biggest impact on defense this week as East Jackson lost to Grass Lake. The 6-foot-2 senior recorded one fumble.
Randy Cole's team's Logan Konopka and Jared Lazarz have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Cascades in both passing and receiving yards. Konopka has thrown for 644 yards this season, while Lazarz, a 6-foot-2 receiver, has 15 catches for 289 yards. Siegrist from Cory Hunt's team leads the league in rushing with 553 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Manchester takes on the Warriors. The Flying Dutchmen are in second place, while Grass Lake is in third place.
