Lyle Harrington had a dynamite game, throwing for 175 yards and three TDs while completing 77.3% of his passes, and also rushing for 30 yards and one touchdown. That's the most passing yards he has posted since back in September of 2024.
Meanwhile, West Central put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat North Newton 36-7. The Trojans pushed the score to 36-0 by the end of the third, a deficit the Spartans cut but never quite recovered from.
West Central's win came from a few key players South Newton will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Felipe Bazan, who picked up 68 receiving yards and a pair of scores, and also rushed for 60 yards and one TD. He also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, forcing one fumble, making two total tackles, and defending three passes. Another player making a difference was Connor Huber, who rushed for 80 yards and one touchdown.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: West Central was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 260 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 260 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to West Central's defense and their three sacks. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Kaleb Kovach and Landon Hughes, who each picked up one sack apiece.
South Newton's record is now 2-3. As for West Central, their record now sits at 5-0.
Things could have been worse for South Newton, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 34-18 loss to West Central in their previous meeting back in September of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Bazan, who rushed for 112 yards and a pair of scores. Now that the Rebels know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
