Javier Ortiz was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 2-for-2. Fort Lupton is 2-1 when Ortiz posts two or more stolen bases, but 1-4 otherwise. Jesse Ceretto also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Jefferson hadn't beaten Englewood on the road since March 16, 2017 but that history sure didn't bother them on Wednesday. The Saints narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Pirates 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Saints have posted since April 29, 2024.
Demetrius Martinez made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Martinez was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Guillermo Lopez, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.
The victory made it two in a row for Jefferson and bumps their season record up to 3-5. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 7 runs in those games. As for Fort Lupton, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Fort Lupton has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Jefferson struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Fort Lupton suffered a grim 18-11 defeat to Jefferson in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Bluedevils avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
