For the first time this season, Leesville will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will be playing at home against the Iowa Yellowjackets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
On Thursday, Leesville came up short against Benton and fell 42-35. That's two games in a row now that the Wampus Cats have lost by exactly seven points.

Despite their loss, Leesville saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Michael Davis Jr, who picked up 184 receiving yards and three scores, was perhaps the best of all. With that strong performance, Davis Jr is now averaging an impressive 112 receiving yards per game. Trel Broom was another key passer, throwing for 407 yards and four touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Iowa strolled into their game on Thursday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They were the clear victors by a 43-23 margin over St. Louis Catholic. Given the Yellowjackets' advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana football rankings (they are ranked 41st, while the Saints are ranked 142nd) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Kaston Lewis and J'Vien Adams. Lewis rushed for 169 yards and three TDs on only 11 carries while Adams gained 203 total yards and three touchdowns. What's more, Adams posted two rushing touchdowns, the most he's had since back in November of 2024.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Iowa proved: they limited St. Louis Catholic to a paltry one yards per carry. The team can thank Christian Williams for the heroic effort on defense: he. Iowa didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 8.5.
Iowa's defense didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. In that department, Gaven Brown was the leader with two.
Iowa's victory bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Leesville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-4.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Leesville has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 156.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Iowa struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 229.4 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Leesville was taken down by Iowa 62-28 when the teams last played back in October of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Adams, who rushed for 182 yards and one score while picking up 10.1 yards per carry, and also picked up 54 receiving yards and one touchdown. Now that the Wampus Cats know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
