It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Escondido Cougars can now relate to. They were dealt a 56-13 defeat at the hands of Mount Miguel on Friday. While losing is never fun, Escondido can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 600th, while Mount Miguel is ranked 185th).
It was another big night for Matthew Barton, who threw for 192 yards and three touchdowns. Barton is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last six games he's played. Mount Miguel also got a significant boost from Davian Mcgowan, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 90 yards.
Escondido has been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season. As for Mount Miguel, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-1.
Escondido does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Mount Miguel will take on Santana at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Santana and Mount Miguel are at an even 3-3 over their past six head-to-heads.
