2A-1 Region I District 1 recap October 22, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in 2A-1 Region I District 1 this week, Childress beat Friona 23-20. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Bobcats.
Bushland moved up to 478 from 544 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Falcons were able to move up by defeating Muleshoe 42-35.
Bushland's Taylor Cornelius and Brian Gillette have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-6 quarterback Cornelius has thrown for 1,981 yards this season, while Gillette has 44 catches for 479 yards. Childress' Da'Shoud Hughes leads the league in rushing yards with 398.
Entering into this week's contest against the Chieftans, Cornelius is short just 19 passing yards to break 2,000 on the season.
A big matchup in 2A-1 Region I District 1 this week will be when Cody Chisum's team takes on Littlefield. The Bobcats are in first place, while the Wildcats are in third place.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Childress takes on Littlefield. The Bobcats have allowed 137 points this season, while Bryan Huseman's team has given up 182. Childress allowed 20 points last week as it topped Friona.
The Bobcats and Michael Prokop's team played the most contested game in the league this week, with the Bobcats eventually emerging with a 23-20 victory.
