CEDAR GROVE, N.J. - After five lead changes,
Cedar Grove (N.J.) took the lead for the win when
Joe Slattery threw a touchdown to
Thomas Cucuzza with 2:00 left in the fourth quarter and held on to defeat
Butler (N.J.) 34-27 on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a
Ryan Cirillo touchdown run, the Bulldogs went into halftime with a 13-12 lead. The Panthers took the lead for good with a Slattery touchdown pass to Cucuzza in the fourth quarter.
Despite scoring 12 points in the third, Cedar Grove still trailed by two points going into the fourth quarter. But eight points in the fourth helped CG pull out the victory.
Butler came in allowing just 14.4 points per game this season. BHS struggled against Cedar Grove's offense, who entered the game scoring 40.7 points per game.
The loss comes after Butler defeated Pequannock 28-12 last week. The win was a nice bounce back for Cedar Grove, which lost to Weequahic last week, 55-20. The loss broke Butler's three-game winning streak.
