Basketball Recap: Guadalupe Centers Sets Scoring Season-High Against Chesterton Academy of St. Philip Neri

Guadalupe Centers scored the most points they've had this season on Tuesday, but it wasn't enough. They were dealt an 80-51 loss at the hands of the Chesterton Academy of St. Philip Neri Crusaders. While losing is never fun, the Aztecs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 570th, while the Crusaders are ranked 226th).

Guadalupe Centers lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Christian Gonzalez, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and 18 boards. He has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more rebounds the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Luis Recalde, who posted nine points along with five assists and five boards.

Even though they lost, Guadalupe Centers was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Chesterton Academy of St. Philip Neri was led to victory by Joachim Burton and Phil Basola. Burton scored 27 points and eight rebounds, while Basola put up 19 points in addition to eight boards and six steals. Isaac Burton was another key player, putting up 12 points and three blocks.

This is the second loss in a row for Guadalupe Centers and nudges their season record down to 6-11. As for Chesterton Academy of St. Philip Neri, their victory was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Guadalupe Centers will venture away from home to take on Frontier School of Excellence at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Frontier School of Excellence will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Guadalupe Centers surely won't give up without a fight. Chesterton Academy of St. Philip Neri will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against St. Joseph D at 8:00 p.m. on February 28th.
